My father, Private (later Sergeant) Thomas James (Jim) Laurie, joined the Battalion on 23 May 1942 and served with it until his demobilisation in 1945.

He was wounded during Operation Bulimba on 1 September 1942, but stayed oin duty. There is a reference to this event in the Battalion History p

This photo was taken 2 Nov 1943 when he was a Signaller in 1st Platoon, HQ Coy 2/15th Bn.

Clipping TB - TJ LAURIE in AIF draft 25-4-1942

This is an extract from the Townsville Daily Bulletin of 25 April 1941

which notes his departure as part of the 47th Draft from North Queensland.

It was cut out by his father and kept as a memento.

See this other link to the TB, which also records the departure of the 47th Draft from NQ.

After returning from the war in 1946, he re-joined the 31st Battalion in Townsville.  He progressed through the ranks of the then CMF, and finally retired with the rank of Major in OCTU in Brisbane. His retirement came when, although passing his Colonel's exams, there were no open positions for him at that rank.

He died on 8 November 1987, and was laid to rest at Albany Creek crematorium.
