Tobruk 70th Anniversary Event - Melbourne

The following is an extract from the website of the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne referring to an event held there on Sunday 3 April 2011.

The ceremony was attended by Steve Rowan and the late Greg Snow.

70th Anniversary of the Siege of Tobruk

Between April and August 1941 around 14,000 Australian soldiers were besieged in Tobruk by a German–Italian army along with four regiments of British artillery and some Indian troops. During this time, Tobruk was subject to repeated ground assaults and almost constant shelling and bombing. The Australian forces were supported by the RAAF and the RAN.

In 2011, we are commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Siege of Tobruk. For more details refer to the Australian War Memorial site.

Shrine Representative : Shrine Governor Squadron Leader Ron A. K. Ledingham
